What would you do if you were trapped on an island in an infinite time loop, where death is not an escape? The answer is simple: grab a weapon, break down the gates, and fight your way to the heart of the castle.

Story

The story of OTXO begins when a protagonist finds a mysterious mask and is forced to wear it. Upon waking, he finds himself on a beach in front of a castle. He vaguely remembers how he got there, but he remembers the reason: his girlfriend is waiting for him somewhere in the castle, and he cannot leave until he finds her.

The game starts with very little information about the story, leaving the player perplexed by the situation. Others, like him, are trapped in the time loop and have accepted their fate. Gradually, the main character uncovers the mysteries that keep the prisoners of this place captive.

Gameplay

OTXO is a top-down, dual-joystick shooter with roguelike elements. The objective is to eliminate enemies to access the next room. These rooms are randomly generated and feature boss fights before you can progress to the next area. If you’ve played Hong Kong Massacre or Hotline Miami, you’ll know what to expect. When your character is knocked out, you lose all your progress and return to the starting point.

The main character can gain a boost by consuming a free drink at the bar; firearms are prohibited. These drinks are stimulants with various effects. One of them, for example, allows you to summon an attack dog or even transform abandoned weapons into automatic turrets. There are many different types. The main character can emerge from the ground and break down doors, as well as destroy enemy weapons. Weapons can be reloaded and picked up from enemies.

You must move quickly to dodge bullets. The main character can also roll and jump over certain obstacles. There’s a special ability that slows down time (hold down the ZL button) when your Focus Gauge is full. Everything slows down briefly, giving you a chance to deal damage or dodge an attack. Luckily, this gauge fills up fairly quickly, but the challenge lies in managing its use to maintain combos. Defeating enemies faster means longer combos and, therefore, more money. This money can be used to buy drinks or unlock new ones at the bar.

Face countless dangerous enemies

OTXO has a lot of enemies, and while they can be eliminated relatively easily, don’t underestimate them. They’re organized and appear in waves. If you’re not fast enough, they can overwhelm you. Completing a level with minimal damage is incredibly satisfying, making you feel like a real John Wick. Boss battles add a novel twist to the game: you can choose your preferred weapon before the fight and have unlimited ammo.

OTXO is challenging, but not overly difficult. Once you master the controls and understand the nature of the attack waves, you’ll be able to overcome them with minimal damage. The fact that your health regenerates slightly with each floor change is an added advantage.

Unique Graphics and Stunning Soundtrack

The game’s visual design is truly extraordinary. Arguably, it’s the most memorable aspect of the gameplay experience. It significantly enhances the overall experience and creates a captivating atmosphere. Several rhythmic melodies perfectly complement the intense action, adding an extra layer of excitement and adrenaline to the game.
