About this Game

Ys Origin is a prequel to the eight previous episodes of the popular Ys series. The game was originally released exclusively for PCs in Japan in 2006, while the Nintendo Switch version launched globally in October 2020.

Launched in 1987, Ys is one of Nihon Falcom’s longest-running action RPG series.

Ys Origin takes place 700 years before the events of *Ys I: Ancient Ys Vanished*; the plot reveals the origins of Ys, Darm Tower, the Black Pearl, the twin goddesses (Reah and Feena), and the six high priests. The game features three playable characters: Yunica Tovah, Hugo Fact, and “The Claw”.

By completing the game with each character, players discover different facets of the story. Each character has a unique background, fighting style, and skill set. Ys Origin is the first title in the Ys franchise not to feature Adol Christin as the protagonist. The game also stands out for its gameplay structure, as it takes place entirely within the massive Darm Tower.

After a devastating demonic invasion, the twin goddesses use their magic to transport the inhabitants of Ys safely to the heavens. Just as the demons gather to establish the Devil Tower and prepare to invade the human world, the goddesses suddenly disappear!

No one is aware of their departure – not even the six high priests who serve them. Clearly, they have returned to the surface, but no one knows exactly why. One thing is for sure: without the goddesses, Ys cannot survive!

Determined to find their missing gods, the six high priests assemble an elite group made up of the kingdom’s finest knights and wizards. These warriors are given a unique mission: to ensure the safety of Reah and Feena and bring them back to Solomon’s sanctuary unharmed. Yet, amidst the desolate, crumbling ruins of Ys, only one destination lies before them: the Devil’s Tower.
