Laika – Aged Through Blood is finally available on Nintendo Switch. This Metroidvania-style action-adventure game is developed by Brainwash Gang and published cross-platform by Headup Games.

The story takes place in a post-apocalyptic world where humanity has vanished. Anthropomorphic animals thrive. Our protagonist is Laika, a coyote mother cursed with immortality. She fights to protect her village and her daughter from the Imperial Birds. Story

The story begins when Laika learns that the conquering Birds have crucified a child from her village. Enraged, the child’s father fought the Birds and was killed. Laika then discovers that the Birds are experimenting with genetic weapons using the DNA of prehistoric animals.

Faced with the attacks and punishments inflicted by the Birds on her village, Laika allies with others to fight them. However, her actions only worsen the conflict. Meanwhile, Laika’s daughter, Puppy, shows signs of inheriting her mother’s curse of immortality, which worries her, as she considers her too young and inexperienced to participate in the war.

During the fighting, the Birds kidnap Puppy. They begin experimenting on her to decipher the curse. Laika decides to go to their base to rescue her. There, she discovers that the Birds are plotting a terrible scheme: they want to drop an atomic bomb to annihilate all life in the Wasteland.

Laika – Aged Through Blood manages to defuse the bomb but is caught in the explosion. She sacrifices herself, leaving Puppy the legacy of her cloak. Laika: Aged Through Blood invites us to explore different facets of the theme of war. The game tells a poignant story of loss, trauma, and the weight of war through the lens of maternal love.
