Blasphemous is a 2D action-adventure game developed by Team17 Studio. It’s arguably one of the most impressive side-scrolling RPGs I’ve ever played. The game is exceptionally well-crafted, thanks to its fantastic art style, deep storyline, rich world, music, and boss designs.

The game’s story is quite complex and full of details related to the Roman Catholic religion. However, the game doesn’t convey any specific moral message. On the contrary, players are free to explore and interpret the story in their own way.

Blasphemous takes place in the fictional world of Custodia, where many religions coexist. Custodia is ruled by an evil force called the Miracle. This entity manifests itself through blessings and curses that befall the inhabitants, symbols of their faith and their guilt. You play as the Penitent, a fierce crusader with immense power and martial skills, determined to find a way to lift the curse that plagues the entire land. Throughout your journey, you will have to overcome obstacles, solve puzzles, and defeat bosses. The non-linear open world will allow you to uncover numerous secrets.

Blasphemous offers a fluid gameplay experience, blending classic action with elements characteristic of the Metroidvania genre. You’ll easily notice the harmony between platforming, combat, and exploration. The game also impresses with its art style. Every corner of Custodia seems like a living work of art. Blasphemous depicts a cruel and unforgiving world where humans become instruments of mysterious religious forces.
