About this Game

Juicy Realm (NSP ROM): A meteorite strikes the planet, and its radiation causes mutations, bringing all fruits to life. Four friends fight to survive against these mutant fruits and try to dominate the food chain.

Gameplay

Juicy Realm is a roguelike shooter where you choose one of four characters and can play solo or in co-op mode from the main menu. The controls are excellent and perfectly responsive, with no lag. At your base camp, you can interact with other non-playable characters or switch characters whenever you want. Once in combat, you’ll face numerous enemies to progress. The minimap shows you where to go, but you can always explore freely. Another advantage: you can return to these areas without worrying about enemies respawning.

Boss battles will require you to learn their attack patterns to survive. If you are killed or lose the items collected during the battle, you will respawn and have to face the boss again. However, the boss who defeated you last time won’t be there anymore. It will be different. Progressing becomes more difficult, but having allies will increase your chances of survival. Good teamwork will help you overcome challenges, instead of going it alone, Rambo-style.

Finally, defeated enemies drop coins, necessary to buy better weapons, and your health bar needs the best items to survive, as the challenge intensifies from this point on.

Graphics

Juicy Realm is vibrant and colorful, with a good balance between light and shadow. In the forest area, for example, you can see how the trees and rocks cast shadows. The animation and the apparent speed of the health bar are fluid and well-paced. The character sprites have a dark and weathered style, with a touch of humor in the four initial characters: Alpha, Pon-Pon, Emy, and Takaro. All characters possess abilities that will be useful in combat. The other characters in the game are unlockable.

The menus, health bar, and ammo are well-organized. Overall, the presentation is excellent for fans of shooter games.

Audio

The music is decent, but the game has a very distinctive style. The sound effects are appropriate and straightforward, from gunshots to enemy deaths. The deaths are especially well done in terms of audio. The introductory cinematic describes what’s happening around you, with the rogue fruit hot on your heels.
