If you’re looking for an RPG with excellent gameplay and stunning graphics, HighWater is a great choice. The game was released on Nintendo Switch in March 2024, well after its PC and console releases. Better late than never: High Water is now available as a free download via the link below.

HighWater takes place on a flooded, post-apocalyptic Earth. Humans have nowhere to live. You play as Nikos, a lonely boy who embarks on a journey to escape Earth and try to reach Alphaville, a thriving city on Mars. During his adventure, Nikos meets companions and faces numerous challenges.

HighWater is primarily a turn-based RPG. However, its gameplay mechanics give it a whole new dimension. You move through the water and must fight enemies to traverse different areas, winning battles to collect items. The combat system is fairly simple: you can move on the grid, initially only once per turn, as in Sparks of Hope, but with some notable differences.

The combat system is well-balanced and offers a perfectly calibrated level of difficulty. You’ll need to think carefully before each battle to organize your team. Sometimes, you’ll have to interact with the environment to gain the upper hand. For example, you can push a heavy charge to temporarily stun enemies or place traps to instantly eliminate a target on the map.

While the gameplay mechanics are excellent, what truly impresses in HighWater is its graphics. The game stands out with its unique art style, recreating a dark and desolate post-apocalyptic world. The characters are rendered in low-poly, but they are distinctive enough to be recognized in any situation, especially during large-scale battles. Although this is the Netflix mobile version, the art style is truly showcased in the console version.

Furthermore, I must say that the background music in this game is simply incredible. It creates a relaxing and melancholic atmosphere that perfectly complements the gameplay. The game runs perfectly on the Nintendo Switch emulator, offering a fantastic gaming experience.

HighWater is an excellent turn-based RPG, but it won’t be for everyone. Its gameplay mechanics sometimes lack a clear explanation, which can be confusing for some, but once mastered, the experience is incredible. The game is available on several platforms, including the Nintendo Switch. Of course, there’s no need to buy it from the eShop, as we provide the NSP file. Simply download it and play for free on the Switch emulator.
