About this Game
The Lord of Madness. Once obsessed with power, Trebor descended into madness after receiving a magical amulet of immeasurable power. His enemy, Werdna, the evil archmage, stole it from him.
Unaware of its purpose, Werdna accidentally triggered an earthquake, creating a ten-level dungeon beneath Trebor’s castle. To avoid looking foolish, he explained that this dungeon would become his new lair, for himself and his armies of monsters.
Trebor, not to be outdone, proclaimed the labyrinth his new Trial Grounds. Adventurers would have to prove themselves there to join his elite honor guard and, in doing so, reclaim their amulets.
Along with Ultima and Might & Magic, the first Wizardry Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord is considered a cornerstone of the dungeon crawler role-playing genre. It was one of the first games of its kind.
