With the impressive number of excellent games released on the Nintendo Switch, it seems many have overlooked the recent release of the sequel to the cult indie game Enter the Gungeon: Exit the Gungeon. This game is available on multiple platforms, including Apple Arcade, Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo Switch. Naturally, this article will focus on the Switch version. The dungeon explored in the first game is collapsing. In this sequel, your objective is to escape. Unlike the first game, which offered a top-down view and precise shooting controls with the analog stick, Exit the Gungeon features 2D side-scrolling gameplay with a fixed camera. The emphasis is on new movement and dodging mechanics.

The core gameplay remains the same: run, shoot, and dodge, but the controls are completely different. Firing is automatic when you move toward the targeted enemy. You will automatically fire your equipped weapon. Your character can equip different types of weapons and switch between them seamlessly.

The dodging system has evolved into an incredible system that allows you to maneuver tactically like a space ninja; the feel is fantastic. By holding the right side of the screen, you can choose the direction of your dodge. This maneuver can be performed in any direction: left, right, up to bypass dangerous enemies, towards a new platform, or down a level to take cover.

The game’s music is excellent and perfectly complements the frenetic pace of this 2D shooter. The dynamic tracks create a thrilling combat atmosphere.

Exit the Gungeon is one of our favorite Nintendo Switch games. It always holds a prominent place in our collection of Switch ROMs on all emulators. This game offers one of the most fun and addictive gameplay experiences you’ll find in an indie title.
